Hanson takes positives from Broxburn defeat

Adrian Hanson was determined to look at the positives following Sauchie’s narrow loss to Broxburn earlier today.

A Brian Morgan double wasn’t enough for the Juniors as Broxburn capitalised on some slack defending, but Hanson is hoping his side have got their mistakes out of their system early.

He said: “We started really well and were very positive. Sloppy mistakes have killed us. But these games are really about getting us ready for the start of the league season so I’d rather the mistakes happened now. There were plenty of positives there today.

“We know the benchmark of where we need to be and to be honest, I don’t think there was very much between the teams at all. Broxburn are a well-established Super League team and always do well there, so the fact there was nothing between the teams is a positive for us.

“It was very much a pre-season game but we have to get that mentality out of our heads as soon as possible, because it seems that we have to work hard for every chance we get, but teams aren’t having to work hard to get chances against us. If that happens in the Super League it will prove costly.”

Sauchie will now take on last season’s title rivals Kennoway Star Hearts in tomorrow’s third-place playoff, and Hanson is hoping they can bounce back with a victory.

He added: “Tomorrow will give us another game and it’s obviously one we’ll be looking to go and win. We played Kennoway last season so we know what we will get from them. It’s a chance for us to get some more miles in our legs but it’s also a chance to pick up a good victory.”

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 12 noon at New Central Park in Kelty.
