Boardroom Shuffle- Interview with new chair Karl Rennie.

Just after Christmas there was a supporters meeting at Beechwood to discuss the future of the club. At that meeting there was Serval changes made to the current committee the main being Noel Dalli stepping down as chairman into an president’s role at the club. Noel returned to the club a few years ago to help stabilise things during a period of change and we place on record our thanks for all he has done over his many many years at the club. We are led to believe he has been involved with the club for over 50 years!

His successor is Karl Rennie who is a familiar face at Beechwood who usually greets you at the turnstiles with a chat about last week’s game. We caught up with Karl this week to see how he was feeling about the changes:

Firstly congratulations on your appointment as chairman can you tell us a bit more about how you got involved in the club? “Thanks, I’ve been involve with Sauchie for just over 3 years after getting asked by Fraser Duncan to pop up and watch a few games. I have been there ever since working behind the scenes with a good team of guys in Jim Allen, Rab McAdam, Tom Duncan, Davie Bryce and on occasions Andy Connor Carrying our various upgrades and requirements to the ground.”

With you taking over from long time club servant Noel, do you have any words for the outgoing chair?

“Noel had come in at a difficult time and picked up where he had previously left off. He has done a grand job over the years and his commitment to Sauchie cannot be faulted. Noel will be a hard act to follow and I will work closely with Noel to pick up the requirements for the job.”

I’m sure you’ll be excited to get started what are your goals for the club in the next few years?

“The key goals for the next few years will be to try and stabilise the team and club and also support Fraser and his team in the changes he needs to carry out to get the team to where he wants it to be on the pitch and our job to keep the club in a good place off the pitch. As supporters will see with the ongoing works around the ground we will not stop until we feel we have a place that the supporters call home and is a great experience for any visiting club and supporters.”

Talk us through some of the other committee changes from the meeting:

“There was also a few others added to the committee on the night with Susan Allen being appointed as assistant treasurer to aid Lorna Duncan in the daily works being carried out at the club, Jim Allen also joins the committee as supporters will know Jim has been a valuable member of the working party over the past few years and Paul Coyle is also appointed as assistant secretary to Rab McAdam to assist where required.”

With a tough start to the season how do you help support the coaching staff in turning the club’s fortunes? “With the tough start to the season we are in a position we hoped to avoid but as a team we are working to rectify this and we will support the manager and the coaching staff as best we can to get the team to where we need to be. As everyone knows this is a difficult league and we have found this tough going as most teams have as every team can take points of each other throughout the season and only time will tell as we work hard to consolidate to stay in this league. We are working hard at bringing in new sponsors as supporters will see already a few have already supported us this season with the new signs displayed around the ground. We have also started a supporters club and further details will be displayed on a supporters club supporters board which will be installed in the clubhouse for all supporters to get information when required. We are also looking at other ways to get supporters back in through the gate with different incentives as the season progresses.”
